SAN JOSE, Calif. -- Ana “The Hurricane” Julaton made history September 12 after becoming the first Filipina American boxer to capture the International Boxing Association (IBA) Super Bantamweight World title, pulling off a stunning upset over the multiple-time champion Kelsey“The Road Warrior” Jeffries at the HP Pavilion here.

Julaton (5-1-1), who entered the fight as the 8-1 underdog, punched her way to a narrow 10-round split decision victory, winning the vacant world title belt over the heavily favored Jeffries (41-10-1) in what some might consider a candidate for “Fight of the Year” and “Upset of the Year” in women’s boxing.

“It’s amazing; I’m overwhelmed right now,” said Julaton, who was shocked and teary-eyed after realizing she was announced the winner of the fight. “I’m trying to digest everything.”
