Immigration Contradiction

La Opinión, Posted: Jan 10, 2009

LOS ANGELES -- It is outrageous that during its final days, the Bush administration is making changes that limit immigrant rights, according to an editorial in La Opinión. The malice with which definitions are manipulated by authorities to persecute immigrants is even worse, editors write.

The collection of DNA samples from persons detained by immigration authorities and those arrested for federal crimes went into effect Friday. Obtaining this genetic material puts immigrants and alleged criminals in the same bag.

Yet, one day earlier, Attorney General Michael Mukasey determined that those tried in immigration courts had no right to challenge the outcome of their cases based on their lawyers’ performance. At the same time, the attorney general defended the policy of not guaranteeing legal representation to those appearing before immigration judges since these are civil cases and the Constitution does not consider this right under such circumstances.

In short, those detained for immigration violations are treated as criminal when it comes to invading their privacy by obtaining their genetic material. Yet, their cases are considered civil when arguing that they have no right to counsel. Where does that leave us?

These so called detained immigrants are ILLEGAL ALIANS and are nothing but criminals. When someone breaks the law, they should expect no reward, only consequences. ILLEGAL ENTRY to the United States is a CRIME!

Ah, very interesting. Now the haters work in tandem. creating pairs of fake comments. one supposedly intellectual sounding anti-immigrant comment paired with one raving, all caps "pro" comment. Both attempt to cast the pro-migrant position in a negative light.

It is true that some of us have ancestors from this land from far back. I am one. But that is not even the point when it comes to this article: these manipulations of law that Bush is famous for. Not to mention the cruelty and ignoring those in need. And any commenter who agrees with that sort of duplicity and methodology is suspect from the start and certainly not in line with the majority of voting US citizens, as we see by the last election.

2009 is the year of sanity, intelligence, and humanity. 2009 is the year for humane and forward-thinking immigration reform.

ANCESTORS LIVING HERE AND THROUGHOUT THE SOUTHWEST SINCE BEFORE YOUR ANCESTORS MADE IT HERE 'ACROSS THE OCEAN' WHEN 'THEY WERE
IMMIGRANTS'...MANY OF US AND OUR FAMILIES HAVE 'ALWAYS BEEN HERE'-SO GET YOUR 'A__ BACK ACROSS THE OCEAN'!!!

It leaves you to settle philosophical legal details in your country of origin.....Bush'e welcome mat is beginning to disappear and citizen's can again enjoy the primary focus on our country and our immigration laws.

No objective contradiction exists except to push your lousy open-border agenda on people that DO NOT want it.
