13-Year-Old Vietnamese-American Performs in Japan

A 13-year-old Vietnamese-American won a spot in the International Junior Original Concert and performed his composition in Japan, reports the Arizona Republic.

Gilbert, Ariz.-based Christian Nguyen’s composition “Dragon Keeper” was among 13 entries chosen from a pool of 35,000 worldwide. He and the other winners from Yamaha Music schools, performed last Saturday with Phoenix Symphony Orchestra member Michael D’Avanzo on the cello and Arizona State University music professor J.B. Smith on the marimba.

Among the audience were Nguyen's parents and one of his teachers at East Valley Yamaha Music School in Chandler.
